The Future of Marine Rescue

A Proposal for Mallacoota Marine Search and Rescue (MMSAR)

Important Disclaimer: Proposal Only

This website outlines a proposal to establish a new, locally managed marine search and rescue unit.

MMSAR is not an active service.

A Vision for a Local Rescue Service

With a new government-funded MSAR facility under construction and two rescue vessels based in Mallacoota, we have a prime opportunity to strengthen local emergency response. Our vision is to establish a robust, community-led volunteer unit under the official MSAR framework, managed locally rather than remotely, to maximise the use of these assets for the safety and security of our community.

This approach also aligns with recommendations from the 2014 Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry, which called for a modern, state-integrated rescue model to better support volunteers and regional safety.
